Mr. Thomas Downey

Thomas Downey is a recent arrival to the Lincoln area. He attended Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, where he received a Bachelors of Music Education in 2011. Before coming to Nebraska, he taught music, choir, and band at St. Theresa Catholic School in Des Moines, Iowa for six years. This past summer he got married to Kirsten Downey (Bohlig), who is the current teacher of music and choir at St. Peter’s in Lincoln, and took the Band Director position at St. Teresa’s, St. John’s, and St. Patrick’s.

Mr. Downey loves to play his instruments, especially the tuba and baritone. He dabbles in music writing as a hobby, and is constantly trying to improve his jazz trombone techniques. He enjoys taking long walks, and a few summers ago proved it by hiking the entire Camino de Santiago, a 500+ mile pilgrimage from France across north central Spain to the cathedral containing the remains of St. James the Apostle. He loves to explore new and unique cultures (usually through their food!), and loves to visit new places.
