Fall Planning Survey

When COVID-19 hit, K-12 educators throughout America were thrust into emergency distance learning.  Few parochial schools were prepared for this, and many homes / families were equally unprepared, but everyone worked together to do what was best for students.  Looking toward the opening of the 2020-21 school year in August, it is unclear what social restrictions will be in place. The Nebraska Department of Education has said it is not making decisions regarding start-of-school, for several weeks yet.  The central education office which supports the schools’ technology is trying to get a sense of what technology might be needed if social restrictions are still being enforced when school starts.  This is a situation where everyone hopes for the best but must prepare for the worst.  They are asking feedback from parents via a survey.  Please click on the link below and complete the survey before May 15.  Thank you for your input.

Schmoker Reading Program

The Schmoker Reading Center at UN-L offers tutoring for struggling readers.  This summer, due to the pandemic, we are implementing an online tutoring option via Zoom.  We are currently recruiting students who are completing 3rd or 4th grade and are a year or more behind grade level in reading.  I realize that winding down the school year in our difficult situation is already keeping you busier than ever, but if you know of students who might benefit, please pass this information along to families who you think might be interested.  The application can be found at cehs.unl.edu/readingcenter, along with information about our center.  If you have questions, please call 402.472.3532 to leave a message.  I’ll return your call as soon as possible.
