ITBS Testing Week

Students in grades 3-8 will complete the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) throughout the week of Feb 28- Mar 4.  Please see the tips below to help them to be relaxed and prepared to do their best on these assessments!

On Test Day

Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast
Grade school kids should be getting 9-12 hours of sleep each night.  Many teachers report that students who don’t do well on tests haven’t gotten enough sleep, and haven’t eaten breakfast on the morning of the test. Doing both of these things will ensure that your child is working at full capacity

Make sure your child is calm and prepared
Children should arrive each day no later than 7:50. This is especially important during testing week as it helps to reduce anxiety walking into the classroom or into mass late.

Please no appointments or vacations this week. Your child will make up the test if they are sick on test day.

Our school will supply the tools your child needs for the test, such as pencils, an eraser, paper, and a calculator.   A snack will be provided for students on testing days.

Remain positive
Staying positive will help your child stay positive. If they gets nervous about the test or are likely to experience anxiety during the test, help them practice some relaxation techniques that they can try once taking the test.

St. Patrick School Family of the Day

As a school we pray for the School Family of the Day after mass, and we ask your family at home to include the St. Patrick School Family of the Day in your family prayer.  If you don’t already pray as a family – this is a simple way to get started.

February 28th – Woeppel Family
March 1st – Yarger Family
March 2nd – Zepf – Family

Throughout Lent we will have a special prayer for each day – students will pray this together after mass and families can add it to their daily family prayer routine!

March 3rd – Prayer of Adoration
“God, you are truly amazing. Not only did You create the entire universe with nothing more than the sound of Your voice, but you truly care about your creation–each and every one of us! You are holy. You are good. You are true. You are love. And you never ever change. Thank You for everything you are, and thank you for loving me.”
March 4th – Prayer of Thanksgiving for Physical Blessings
“God, thank you for all of the many, many blessings you have given me–blessings way beyond what I could ever hope to deserve. Thank you for _______________________ . You are such a good God. Thank You for always taking such good care of me.
March 5th – Prayer of Thanksgiving for Spiritual Blessings
“God, before I even took my first breath, you already knew me and loved me. Thank you for sending your son, Jesus, to die for my sins. I cannot even imagine sacrificing one of my children so a criminal could go free, but that’s exactly what you did–for me! Thank you for the gift of eternal life you freely offer those who love you, and thank you for the precious gift of the Holy Spirit to lead me into Your presence until You call me home. You truly have given me so much, even when I was so far from you. Thank you!”
